2026 HWA Specialty Awards

The Horror Writers Association (HWA) has announced the recipients of its 2026 Specialty Awards. Bad Hand Books is the recipient of the Specialty Press Award, given to a publisher whose work has substantially contributed to the horror genre. Marc L Abbott will receive the Richard Laymon President’s Award, presented to a volunteer who has served the HWA in an exemplary manner. Sarah Read is the winner of the Karen Lansdale Silver Hammer Award, presented to an HWA volunteer who has done a massive amount of work for the organization. Eric Guignard is the winner of the Mentor of the Year Award, which recognizes one mentor who has done an outstanding job of helping new writers. All winners will be honored at a gala during StokerCon 2026, to be held June 4-7, 2026 in Pittsburgh PA.

  • Marc L Abbott goes to the Richard Laymon President’s Award, “presented to a volunteer who has served the HWA in an especially exemplary manner and has shown extraordinary dedication to the organization.”
  • Sarah Read is the winner of the Karen Lansdale Silver Hammer Award, presented periodically “to an HWA volunteer who has done a truly massive amount of work for the organization, often unsung and behind the scenes”
