Don DeLillo’s sexy hockey novel is getting reissued.

Don DeLillo’s 1980 book *Amazons* will be reprinted for the first time in 46 years. The book, a racy hockey novel, was originally published under the pen name Cleo Birdwell. Scribner will release the new edition in November, still under the Cleo Birdwell pseudonym. *Amazons* is subtitled “An Intimate Memoir by the First Woman Ever to Play in the National Hockey League.” The book is a faux memoir from the perspective of the first woman to play in the NHL, featuring jokes, social satire, and sex. DeLillo only recently confirmed he was the writer behind Birdwell. He relented and gave the go ahead for a reissue after pressure from his wife, agent, and editor.

- The book’s subtitle, “An Intimate Memoir by the First Woman Ever to Play in the National Hockey League,” pretty succinctly sums up the plot of this fictitious autobiography.
- After a lunch with DeLillo’s wife, his editor, and a fellow novelist, followed by a call from his agent and editor, Don relented and gave the go ahead for a reissue.
📚 BookAddict’s Take: If you enjoy literary experiments and unconventional works, the reissue of *Amazons* offers a chance to explore a different side of a celebrated author.
