2025 Otherwise Award Winner

The 2025 Otherwise Award (formerly the James Tiptree, Jr. Award) winner is Luminous by Silvia Park. The award is given annually to science fiction or fantasy works that “expand and explore our understanding of gender.” The winning author will receive $200 and a medal. The author will be honored at WisCon 2026, to be held online May 21-25, 2026. An “honor list” was also released. The 2025 jury members included Eugen Bacon (chair), Rebecca Fraimow, Andrew Hook, K. Ibura, and Cheryl S. Ntumy. The jury is encouraged to take an expansive view of science fiction and fantasy. The jury seeks works that have a broad, intersectional, trans-inclusive understanding of gender in the context of race, class, nationality, and disability.
