A Seat at the Table Books, Elk Grove, Calif., Burglarized; RIP Calvin Tomkins
A Seat at the Table Books in Elk Grove, Calif., was burglarized over the weekend. Two men broke into a lock box containing an extra key, entered the store, and stole the cash drawer and a computer monitor, also damaging the back office. Store owner Emily Autenrieth posted on Instagram about the incident. Following the burglary, the bookstore requested customers to pay by credit card or exact change. Drag queen Dolly Romano began soliciting donations to help with damages. Police officers found the store’s cash box in a nearby neighborhood. Why Choose, a romance-focused bookstore emphasizing underrepresented voices, debuted in Tucson, Ariz., late last year. The store sells new and used romance titles and includes books from self-published authors.
