A Day in the Life of a Six-Figure Indie Author
Hybrid author J.D.L. Rosell, who earns five figures per month from his books, shared his daily routine and advice for authors. Rosell has been publishing since 2016 and writes epic fantasy, having expanded into multiple subgenres. Rosell spends about 50% of his time writing and 50% on other tasks, including admin and marketing. He spends at least half of his non-writing time on marketing tasks, including running ads across various platforms and posting to social media. Rosell’s income is split between ebook and print, with audio adding to it as well.
- I do think of everything I do as part of the business, and myself as a business owner.
- I’m primarily indie. Only in audio am I traditionally published.
- A successful day is one where I’m in flow the entire writing session.
📚 BookAddict’s Take: If you’re an indie author struggling to balance writing with business tasks, Rosell’s 50/50 time split and focus on marketing could offer a useful model.
