Anthropic Settlement: The Claims Deadline Is March 30

The deadline to file a claim in the Bartz v. Anthropic settlement is March 30, 2026. Authors are encouraged to file a claim even if their publisher is filing one. Filing individually is the only way to ensure receipt of entitled amounts. Authors could be entitled to approximately $3,000 for each book included in the Works List if they are a sole copyright owner, or approximately $1,500 if they have a publisher. The settlement website has a searchable Works List. Only books on the Works List are covered by the settlement. The Claim Form is an essential, court-supervised step in the settlement process, and it’s how authors request payment for their books that are included in the Works List and part of the settlement.

  • Make sure to file a claim even if your publisher is filing one. Filing yourself is the only way to ensure that you will receive the amounts you are entitled to.
  • You could be entitled to approximately $3,000 for each of your books that is included in the Works List if you are a sole copyright owner or approximately $1,500 if you have a publisher (with certain exceptions)
  • Only books that are on the Works List are covered by the settlement.
