A nationwide book ban bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives, and the ALA has issued a statement strongly denouncing the bill. A Florida bill is proposing further changes to a controversial law preventing books that ‘describe sexual conduct’ from being in public schools. The Alabama State Senate approved a bill that would allow local officials to remove library board members without cause. Arkansas has banned all physical books, magazines, and newspapers coming into prisons for individuals beginning February 1st. A proposed bill in Tennessee would allow anyone living in a particular county to request that their local library board remove a book from the shelves. Iowa lawmakers have advanced a bill that would prohibit partnerships between public schools and libraries. Bag of Bones by Stephen King has become the 23rd book to be banned statewide in Utah public schools. Utah has now banned four additional titles across the state, bringing the total up to 27 banned books.
