Netflix’s One Piece Showrunner Adapting Monstress Into Adult Animated Series

The comic book *Monstress* is being adapted into an animated series by Amazon MGM Studios. Steven Maeda, who has worked on *One Piece*, *Lost*, and *The X-Files*, will co-showrun the project with Tiffany Greshler. The comic, written by Marjorie Liu and illustrated by Sana Takeda, is set in an Asian-inspired fantasy world. The story follows a young woman with a monster inside her as she seeks to understand her past and avenge her mother’s murder. She is joined by a talking cat and a hybrid fox/human girl amidst a war between humans and otherworldly forces. The comic series has won awards, including the British Fantasy Award for Best Comic, the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series, and the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
