Some tips for pantsing

Pantsing doesn’t have to lead to a structural mess. To make pantsing work, give each POV character a strong central motivation. This prevents agency problems and provides a wireframe of structure. Each scene should serve a purpose in progressing the story, whether to discover plot threads, progress the main thread, or write important events. Scattered plot threads should have distance from one another and the main one to allow flexibility during the writing process. Writers should have patience and exercise restraint, avoiding reveals or major events too early. It’s better to stay adaptable because the story and characters will have their own ideas.
