Teachers with great resumes and publication records sometimes struggle to get hired for or sell out writing retreats. Event organizers need teachers who can market and attract students. The success of a retreat depends on the experience participants have and the number of people who want to attend. While the event experience is important, organizers can’t run it if they can’t sell it. Teacher payment varies from flat fee plus expenses, to profit percentage, to “they pay us lodging and they pay you tuition so charge what you want.”
